The meal was very tasty and well cooked. The service was good. The only thing was that The navarin of lamb came only with mash and no veg. Maybe you had to order them separately but nobody told us.
We were staying at the hotel (excellent - see separate review) and used the restaurant twice for dinner and once for lunch. Sunday roast was very good indeed. Pheasant, on another occasion, was bland but ok. Fish and chips a disaster - don't think I've ever seen so much almost-burnt batter and skin and so little fish. If you happen to be there for Sunday lunch, enjoy. Otherwise...
light lunch needed after heavy shopping foray. We'd been before but eh layout has changed. Ther service was cheerful and nice range of beers. Food not terribly exciting and about average price for a hotel. Lovely place, but much better value to be had elsewhere in Alnwick I felt. Barter Books has a cracking buffet cafe at the old station
We were in Alnwick on a Bank Holiday weekend so we booked to eat here on the Monday given that there was likely to be some restriction on the number of places open. It turned out that Monday is steak night and is, even on a Bank Holiday, surprisingly busy. The food perfectly acceptable, just not outstanding.
