I was delighted to find the Verlaine reviewed. This is a comfortable, no-frills, down-home bistrot in the 13th, close to the highlights of the historic Butte-aux-Cailles, a more interesting part of the 13th. This place was next to my hotel and I chose to have my breakfast there. Service is just so friendly and the sandwiches and coffee are wonderful. Beats the hotel breakfast anytime. Price is right.
Good food for a good price, don't forget it's still Paris! Located in the heart of St Ouen flea market you can stop at its tables to taste a goat cheese salad with basil bread, roasted chicken, burgers, salads etc.. With good wine from Bordeaux area. Waitresses fast and nice.
This little bistro is in an out-of-the-way part of Paris, seldom visited by tourists. The nearby rue de la Butte aux cailles has a number of restaurants and cafés, which were closed when we passed, late as usual for a Paris lunch. However, we just squeaked into La Verlaine, and were given a very nice lunch by a polite patronne who hardly looked askance at our lack of knowledge ...
